Last week I spent a few days in Calgary before arriving in Vancouver. I only planned on shooting some personal work out here, so when John and Jill contacted me about doing an engagement session for them, I jumped at the chance!
They are due to get married in September and have been together for almost 10 years. We met up at Crescent heights, an area of Calgary that has beautiful views of the city sky line and was a place Jill & John used to spend a lot of time meeting when they first started dating.
One thing you probably can’t tell from these images is that it was FREEZING cold. It was -5 and with wind chill, it probably neared -10. Yep, it was that cold! My hands froze 10 minutes into the session and Jill & John assured me that I wouldn’t suffer from frost bite (yes, this was a concern for me haha!)..
We shot for 5 mins and retreated back to the car to warm up, then shot some more (and repeat). As the sun went down, we then headed downtown to take a few shots there. These two were awesome and made shooting the session easy. Thank you guys! I had a lot of fun hanging out with you!
I hope you enjoy the images
and congratulations to you both!

I did write a bigger blog post. Honest. But it sounded a little bit cheesy on paper.
So, I’ll cut to the chase… I’m finally moving back to Vancouver and I CANNOT WAIT to start living and shooting weddings there again!
I’ve dreamed about living here for a few years and if we ever meet, I’ll explain my story and how it is an Englishman from London ended up living in Australia for 6 months (ok, stick with me here!), meeting some travellers from Calgary (now some of my best friends) and then on a visit to Canada, driving to Vancouver and falling in love with this city and the country.
I get back to Vancouver (or ‘The Couv’ as I like to call it) later this week and I cannot frickin’ wait!
It would be wrong not to have an image in a blog post, so here’s a panoramic image I took of the Vancouver skyline at sunrise in September 2010 on my birthday.

and one of my fav images from a wedding in Vancouver

Manali and Varun literally got engaged a week before this shoot. They’ve been together for 9 years and now work in the city together as architects. We met in the morning in the Fort area of Mumbai, at 7am in the morning, walked around the city, enjoying the peaceful side of Mumbai before it got crazy busy. And crazy busy is what Mumbai gets.
Shooting early in the morning meant we could enjoy the sunrise and the cool air and more importantly not get run over by a rickshaw
Thanks so much to you guys for agreeing to meet me so early!
We started off near the Asiatic Society and ended up near the beautiful Gateway of India by the sea.
Wishing you guys all the best for the future and for your engagement ceremony next week!

Congratulations Manali & Varun!
